Serving The Homeless

My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. - Isaiah 32:18

Do you have a heart for serving the homeless with compassion and kindness? St. Francis provides on-going and/or intermittent opportunities to serve those in need, either in a coordinated effort or on your own.

(If no opportunities are shown below, check back again as new opportunities are made available throughout the year.)

Salvation Army Center of Hope

"Fill a Bottle, Fill a Heart—Help Moms and Babies Thrive!" June 8-29

When women and children have nowhere else to go, they can count on The Salvation Army Center of Hope. Located two miles north of Uptown Charlotte, the Center of Hope shelter sleeps an average of 275 women and children every night.

But homeless families also need help getting back on their feet. Shelters are only a temporary solution. The Salvation Army is a leader in helping families in crisis through programs that include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and shelter diversion. Each program is graduated to step clients from the point of crisis to the point of resolution—a successful path out of homelessness.

In addition to basic needs, clients receive case management, intervention programs, health care, childcare for young children, and guidance for school-age children and teens.

You can help! Fill a baby bottle with change, which will be donated to the Salvation Army Center of Hope in assisting them in Helping Moms and Babies Thrive! Baby bottles will be available at St. Francis beginning June 8 and will be due back to St. Francis - filled with change - by June 29. Pick up as many baby bottles as you would like to fill and return them by June 29. What a great way to serve those in need!

Hope Chapel

125 Wadsworth Place, Charlotte

Each Thursday at 11:30AM - Volunteers serve a donated meal to nearly one hundred and fifty attendees weekly who are in poverty and un-housed or marginally housed. After lunch, those who wish to stay are treated to a “sermonic conversation” led by Pastor Charles, in which he shares scripture and an interactive message with those in attendance.

Each Sunday at 5PM – “Psalms & Psupper” is an opportunity to share food and fellowship with those in poverty and un-housed or marginally housed.

Volunteer opportunities include serving the meals or providing companion services during the meals.

This is an individual/ on-your-own opportunity. For more information or to volunteer, reach out to Pastor Charles Dirico (Hope Chapel) at 980-240-3140.
